Things to do in Jindabyne

Most people associate Jindabyne with winter and snow sports, but there is an abundance of things to do and see here in beautiful Jindabyne all year round. Check out some of our favourite activities and places to go.

We’ve got the Outdoors & Indoors covered with different options depending on the weather.

Outdoors

Jindabyne has plenty of outdoor recreation to enjoy. The pristine landscapes give way to beautiful Lake Jindabyne with boating and fishing during summer and skiing and snowboarding during winter. 

Snowboarding & Skiing

Explore the trails and huge amount of terrain available at Perisher, Charlotte Pass and Thredbo resorts. Winter season begins the June long weekend and ends the October long weekend. Thredbo is open year round with mountain biking available over the summer.

Kayaking and Canoeing

There are endless amazing places to slip your kayak or canoe into the fresh waters of Lake Jindabyne. Why not start at any of the boat ramps, or head to Claypits Boat Ramp or Rushes Bay in East Jindabyne. Be sure to paddle out to Lion Island or Cub Island off the Jindabyne Foreshore.

Cross Country Skiing

There are many different cross country ski trails around Perisher. Check out the Perisher X-Country website for more details including trail maps and event information. Perisher X-Country.

Horse Riding

Want to experience a little bit of “The Man From Snowy River”, then why not explore some of the beautiful snowy mountains on horse back. Check out Thredbo Valley Horse Riding or if you are happy to travel, check out Cochran Horse Treks (in Adaminaby) or Reynella Rides (also Adaminaby)

Thredbo Alpine Coaster

After a thrill without having to grab skis or a snowboard? Check out the Thredbo Alpine Coaster which runs all year round and is sure to give everyone a thrill. The coaster runs over 1.5km of track on the mountain side. If you want to let loose then you’ll reach a top speed of 40km/h but for those who want a slower ride, you have full control over your speed using hand brakes. Buy tickets online. 

Lake Jindabyne Frisbee Golf (Disc Golf)

The Jindabyne Disc Golf has been around since 2014 and include 9 holes for you to test out your skills. You’ll find the tees are marked with signage and identify what Par each hole is. Most are par 3 or 4. Check out the course map here. Discs are available for purchase at the Rip Curl shop located in Nuggets Crossing.

Banjo Patterson Town Park

Located opposite Banjo Patterson Inn (Cnr Bay Street & Kosciusko Rd) and adjacent to the Jindabyne Bowling Club, Banjo Patterson Town Park will provide hours of fun for the kids. The kids park is fully fenced and has a flying fox, climbing obsticles and lots more. There are public restrooms available and plenty of shaded grassed areas for a picnic. Be sure to walk over and see the monument to Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki and follow the path for a lovely walk along Lake Jindabyne foreshore.

Thredbo River

Although the Snowy River is a popular tourist attraction, don’t forget the beautiful Thredbo River. There are lots of great picnic areas to choose including Thredbo River Picnic Area as you head towards Perisher or head down Alpine Way into Thredbo Village.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking is extremely popular during the summer months and there is a large variety of trails available around Jindabyne. Bungarra Alpine Centre has approx 20km of mtb trails to explore. Lake Crackenback Resort has approx 18km of bike trails and there are lots around Jindabyne.

Don’t have a MTB? Contact Sacred Ride (located in Jindabyne) if you want to hire a bike and go exploring yourself. If you want to check out the MTB trails in Thredbo, be sure to grab your lift pass early and get 15% off.

Lake Jindabyne

Not up for water sports? Why not just enjoy the lakeside atmosphere. Pack a picnic blanket and lunch and head down to the lake with a good book and enjoy the quiet and beautiful views. There are lots of great spots along the lake including Foreshore Park and Claypits Beach, to have a picnic and just relax. Take a kite, the kids bikes or any outdoor sport ideas you’ve got and enjoy a day lake side.  

Snowy Monaro Art & Artisan Trail

The Monaro & Snowy Mountains region is home to many talented creatives, from artists to those in the creative industry. South East Arts has put together a comprehensive list of art and artisans allowing visitors to meet the makers, get up-close-and-personal with street art or take a slow stroll through any of the sculpture walks. Boating

Lake Jindabyne provides a pristine environment for you to enjoy a day on the water. Choose from several boat ramp options including Claypits Boat Ramp, Widows Inlet Boat Ramp, Snowline Caravan Park Boat Ramp, Waste Point Boat Ramp, Rushes Bay in East Jindabyne, or Kalkite Boat Ramp in nearby Kalkite. Spend the day exploring the beautiful waters and shorelines, pull up for a picnic lunch on the shore and relax and unwind. 

Fishing

Lake Jindabyne is known for it’s trout fishing and amazing fly fishing. Choose your spot on Lake Jindabyne or venture up the Thredbo River. Want a family friendly fishing adventure? Why not check out Eucumbene Trout Farm. For an informative and educational experience try Gaden Trout Hatchery where you can learn about breeding and rearing of cold water fish.

Hiking / Bushwalking

If you are a keen hiker then you’ll love the variety available around Jindabyne and the snowy region. Some amazing options within Kosciusko National Park include Porcupine Walk (5km), Dead Horse Gap Track (5km), Rainbow Lake (2.5km), Thredbo River Track (4km), Main Range Track (13km) and more. Jindabyne Skate Park

If you have some youngsters looking to do some skateboarding, why not check out Jindabyne Skate Park. Located at the end of Bay Street and on the lake foreshore and close to Banjo Patterson Town Park.

Nugget’s Crossing Jindabyne provides retail, giftwares, food & groceries, health & beauty, snow sports, and banking services. Located on Kosciusko Road with parking facilities.

ESS Boardstore

Located behind Nuggets Crossing Shopping Centre on the corner of Gippsland St and Snowy River Ave, ESS boardstore has some summer and winter equipment available including demo equipment so you can try before you buy. ESS Boardstore online.

First Tracks Boardstore

Located to the side of the Nuggets Crossing Shopping precinct, First Tracks is another great boardstore with a great range of clothing and equipment. First Tracks Online.

Snowy Region Visitor Centre

Why not stop by the Snowy Region Visitor Centre where staff can assist you with things to see and do, road conditions and browse the range of brochures, books, gifts and souvenirs. You can also pick up your National Parks Entry pass in advance to avoid queues at the park entrance. 

Jindabyne Indoor Pool

Fancy a splash about or want to swim some laps? The Jindabyne Indoor Pool is a Snowy Monaro Council facility and provides visitors with change rooms, kiosk, restrooms and seating. Open Monday to Saturday. 

Thredbo Leisure Centre

The Thredbo Leisure Centre is a family favourite during both winter and summer. The Leisure Centre includes a lap pool alongside a waterslide and the Mission Inflatable course. Be sure to check opening times as the leisure centre does close at the end of winter for maintenance. 

Raglan Gallery (Cooma)

The Raglan Gallery & Cultural Centre operates as an art gallery to showcase local art along with the heritage garden which has been restored and is maintained by volunteers. Check out the gallery shop and any special exhibitions coming up.

Rhythm Snowsports

Fancy some retail therapy? Check out Rhythm Snowsports in Cooma for a wide range of summer and winter appearel and equipment. A great stop over on your way to Jindabyne on on your way home. Rhythm Online.

Groceries

Want to grab some groceries for your stay? We have a few options available but be aware that during peak seasons in Winter the shops can often run out of popular stock items so it helps to plan ahead.

Woolworths

Woolworths is located within Nugget’s Crossing. Why not pre-order your groceries and choose Pick & Collect or Delivery options for when you arrive. 

Friendly Grocer Jindabyne

Friendly Grocer Jindabyne is located in the old town centre shops opposite Banjo Patterson Park (first set of shops as you drive into Jindabyne). Be sure to check out Friendly Grocer for your shopping needs.
